Okay, this LJ is going to have to go away for a while. Um, there'll be a replacement, e-mail me if you're curious about it.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
So I'm at HATCH, and there's this new girl, who is funny and cute so I'm eyeing her and being all friendly just because I enjoy being around her, not out of any sort of expectation, and then she asks me if I'm seeing anyone and then she asks me for my number.
I did not just type that. There is no possible way on the planet that I just typed that.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Sorry to keep posting these WinAmp things, but they're FABULOUS. Like--
Vicious re-pulled on Tom Lehrer's "I Hold Your Hand in Mine."
My joy would be complete, dear, if only you were here But still I keep your hand as a precious souvenir...
ooooh, and Kate Winslet on "I Feel Pretty." How nice.

This is loads of fun. The earth's magnetic field comes from inside the planet! I mean, obvious if you think about it, but...cool, man.

Okay, yet more Winamp related blah--does anyone know how to get audio off a CD into an mp3?
Oh, and also, I'm hoping somebody makes a Smallville skin soon, because I feel an intense NEED for one. And I have no computerart skills. like...AT ALL.

The saddest thing I've seen lately--someone in the pro-anorexia community quoting the "It doesn't interest me what you do for a living..." piece by Oriah Mountain Dreamer. I'm not going to assume she doesn't understand it--I understand a lot of beautiful ideas I'm not ready to put into practice--but I think it's tragic.
I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, "Yes!"
I'm sorry if I'm being condescending. I just, the girls who post on that community--I want to read them this on a dark night in the middle of the woods and let the lightning hit. I want them to live poetry and go weeks without counting anything.

9:01 am - Geek Goals
|
I've been feeling very computerish lately, so I thought I ought to enumerate my geek goals so as to get a better handle on them. I welcome advice/general conversation about any of these, by the way.
1. Install and understand Linux. I want to get a more intuitive feel of my computer, to know what's going on inside the magical box and be able to change it to my liking.
2. Get rid of AOL and get a decent browser.
3. Register a domain name and turn Lia into a server so I can host people.
4. Learn enough to be a decent server admin. This is more or less my life's goal. ::grin::
5. Become at least functional in either C++ or Scheme(I have to do more research before deciding which). Functional=can read most of a "For Dummies" book and say, I can do that. (It's a weird standard but a specific one, which is what I'm going for.)
6. but sort of a subset of 5. Read compsci theory. Learn about logic and switches and other scary words. Figure out what's possible. This is the most important to me, because while I've always wanted to be a computer programmer--ever since I was eight, I believe--I've never really had an idea of how programs work. It's always been a very surface kind of comprehension, sort of like learning lots of different phrases in a foreign language but never studying conjugation or verb tenses. I want to be able to generate my own ideas, not just skillfully execute the ideas of others. The only system I've ever managed to attain this degree of fluency in is the English language. Even when I could read music I was never quite comfortable enough with the graphing system to compose. So...should be interesting.
These goals, by the way, are for the next calendar year, and in more or less the order I want to get them done. (#6, obviously, is an ongoing thing I hope to start as soon as possible.)

And it's time to Poll the Viewing Audience. Not a fancy-schmancy type poll with radio buttons, 'cause I, uh, don't know how to do that. Just click comment, shyeah?
So. What should I write next?- A sequel to "Both Hands"
- A smutty CLex snippet
- An actual CLex story, most likely sans smut
- Other Smallville fanfic
- Something else entirely
Details, please. Thank you muchly, queue forms to the left.

I'm seriously considering installing Linux on this little guy. The main thing stopping me right now is the fact that AOL and KaZaA won't work anymore, but, well, AOL's a bad habit I need to kick anyway...
Advice? anyone?
